Dear Esteemed Members of the Korean Laparoendoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery Study Group (KLASS),
It is with great honor and a deep sense of responsibility that I assume the role of the 11th President of KLASS. First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and respect to the past presidents and executive members for their dedication and tireless efforts in leading our society to where it stands today.
Since its founding in 2004, KLASS has played a pivotal role in advancing academic excellence and surgical techniques in the field of minimally invasive laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery. Over the past 20 years, we have significantly contributed to elevating the standard of laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery in Korea to a world-class level.
Now, as we prepare for the next 20 years, I will dedicate myself to the continued development of our society with the following key goals:
First, we will focus on promoting academic exchange and strengthening research capacity. By expanding collaboration with leading domestic and international societies, we will provide broader platforms for sharing the latest knowledge and surgical skills. In research, we will support a wide range of topics—not only limited to traditional laparoscopic surgery, but also including endoscopy, chemotherapy, and intraperitoneal therapies—so that KLASS-branded studies can continue to open new frontiers in the field.
Second, we will enhance educational opportunities for young medical professionals. Minimally invasive surgery requires highly refined skills, and we aim to improve the quality of our surgical training programs and mentoring systems. This will ensure that young physicians can grow into capable specialists in laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, which I firmly believe is the key to our society’s sustainable future.
Third, we will strengthen multidisciplinary collaboration, industry-academia partnerships, and international cooperation. Advancements in endoscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery require close cooperation across various medical fields, including gastroenterology and radiology. By fostering strong ties with related academic societies, the medical industry, and international partners, we will contribute not only to surgical advancement but also to innovation in medical devices and healthcare services.
Fourth, we will improve communication with our members and enhance the efficiency of society operations. By actively listening to our members and embracing diverse perspectives, we will work to create a more inclusive and collaborative community where all members grow together.
We are now in the midst of a rapidly changing medical landscape. Technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotic surgery are being swiftly integrated into healthcare, and the demand for patient-centered care is stronger than ever. In this era of transformation, our society must continue to learn, evolve, and lead with innovation that meets the needs of the time.
I will do my utmost to ensure that this new chapter marks a significant leap forward for KLASS. I sincerely ask for your active participation and warm support.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Do Joong Park, M.D., Ph.D.
President
Korean Laparoendoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery Study Group (KLASS)
